Making my son's birthday invitations

My son's turning 3 on June 19 and we're having a party for him on June 21.

I made the invitations in the span of two days (would've taken only a few hours -- but, with two kids, I had to take frequent breaks. ^_^)

I'll blog about this

I've never participated in one before -- but I think it's a wonderful opportunity to share and receive lovely cards printed using the Gocco.

Deadline is May 10. ^_^

For people worried about postage cost, it shouldn't cost more than 100 pesos to mail out 5 cards via the PhilPost special delivery (which takes about 15-20 days to arrive to most international destinations).
A productive day -- of problems and solutions ^_^

Can the Gocco print on cloth?

I've mentioned many times on this blog how incredibly versatile the Gocco is -- but I've only shown projects done on paper.

I've been asked quite a few times if the Gocco can print on cloth -- and the simple answer is, yes it can. (The Gocco can print on many different kinds of surfaces, given the right kind of ink.)

Now, here's where it gets tricky --

Riso only released a limited number of colors for textile printing --

I think this limits design possibilities. It would be lovely to see the Japanese colors, for example, printed on a shirt.

The other thing that's tricky about using the Gocco to print on shirts is the machine itself -- the PG-5 and PG-11 can only print on a 3.5" x 5" area (full) and has about an inch of headspace below the hinge.

This makes it difficult to position the shirt for printing.

Unless you want your designs on the bottom of your shirt or on the sleeves, it would take a lot of dexterity (and willpower) to figure out where else to print using the Gocco.

A fe...

A Happy Thought --

A few weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised to receive one particular email.

Julie bought a Gocco from me earlier this year and I was very excited to read about how she was getting along with her Gocco.

I don't know if it's just me -- but I feel giddy seeing Gocco projects (either of friends or on Etsy) and I continue to be amazed by how creatively some people have used their Goccos.

It inspires me. And keeps me going.

I've been so lucky to meet so many wonderful and creative people through the Gocco. ^_^

Julie's Project #1
Julie's Project #2
Julie's Gocco Swap Project
Spotlight on: Watercolor Series (Inks)

In truth, I'm partial to the darker, richer inks for the Gocco (the Japanese series) but I've always been fascinated with the Watercolor series. They have such cute names! Apple Green, Shell Pink, Baby Blue and Lemon Yellow.

One of the handful of readers asked me how they look on paper and I had to be honest and say that I had never used them. (I really just liked looking at the tubes. ^_^) But my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to dedicate a project entirely to the Watercolor series. Since Chinese New Year is less than a month away, I decided to create a postcard with a Rat theme.

I was too tamad to "make" my own (look for pictures on the Internet) so I looked through some old Gocco magazines. These magazines feature "free" images which Gocco-ers can use. They are already Gocco ready so all you have to do is cut. ^_^

This was the image I decided to print. I already new that I was going to ink each image using a different...

Spotlight on: Paper!

It's so nice to meet fellow Gocco users here in the Philippines and I enjoy the conversations I have with them.

I usually ask two questions when I talk to them for the first time:
1. How did you hear about the Gocco?
2. Where do you find the paper you use for your Gocco?

For the most part, we buy the bond-paper-size cardstocks available in bookstores and just cut them to size. I remember having to do this for my wedding thank you cards and I could never get them all the same size or cut in a nice, straight line. (After card #100, your hand tends to cramp and shake a little.)

I discovered Corona unlined index cards when I was hunting for paper to print my son's baptism invitations and I really like using them -- they are the right size for the Gocco and the paper quality is also very good. It's relatively inexpensive -- a pack of 50 is PhP19 (0.38/card).

When I was in Singapore last August, I found colored unlined index cards and bought some as well.
